As much as I know I shouldn't be surprised I still am. This guy was solid. Never spooked by any tank mates. Never spooked by anyone walking past the tank. Always active. Ate anything you put in the tank and always ate a lot. I'm guessing he smashed his head on the glass pretty bad. A few days ago it started. Couldn't swim straight or keep balance. Got worse every day until he finally laid to rest. He went from about 7 inches to 14 inches in 4 months...

What's the longest anyone has been able to keep one?
I seem to remember an article years ago about changing habitat needs as they age

Anyone else we know of? I know a lot of experts with extensive knowledge have kept them I just don't recall many doing so long term

Longest I can think of is seven,they tend to live longer in ponds of large sizes

What's the longest anyone has been able to keep one?
I seem to remember an article years ago about changing habitat needs as they age
5 years. I believe it was killed by the aimara it was with. Or that was the owners guess. He said they fought pretty often and he guessed the armatus couldn't take it no more.
