Gar? or not to Gar?

I'm not really seeing the resemblance on that one.

It appears that the marble line pattern is beginning to form on this guys characin, whereas Hujeta's are just plain silver. It was also sold to him as a marble gar, which is a common nickname for the marble line characin.

I was aware of the Hujeta's almost always being silver, that's why i said I had never seen one like this. The beak and head just look more like Hujeta to me, but I am not ruling out the juvi transformation idea. How big is this guy ATM?

Nice Ryan. The only thing off to me is that juvenile gars often have the forked tail. See how it is fading on this guys baby tropical: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=395506

The fork in that particular gar's tail is abnormal; it was probably the result of a bite from a tankmate or a tear in the tail.

Young-of-the-year (YOY) gars have a filament above their tail which could be mistaken for a fork such as in this picture.

I must have dreamt that fact then. Could have sworn it came up once.
