Well there has been a series of tragic events for gulper cat owners in the recent past...and I'm about to add mine. :irked:

There has been recent debate as to what are acceptable tankmates for Gulper Cats (Asterophysus batrachus). I know I've had luck with other large catfish, but my luck ran out last night.

My largest Gulper (about 6-7") ate a BEEFY 9" RTSxTSN...which I was planning on moving into my larger tank THIS WEEKEND!!!

Sorry about the water marks...I was being lazy.

Anyway, here are the pics...

No kidding...I've given up with tankmates. I'm just keeping the gulpers together because there is clearly a risk with ANY sort of tankmates.

I was going to move the gulpers into one of my large tanks with large bass, aros, and widebars but decided not to because my smallest black aro is only 13"...and the gulper ate a 13" black aro...so I decided not to make that move. :nilly:

I was both irate and amazed at the same time. The scary part is that when I was feeding the other gulper, that fat-arse took a piece of jumbo shrimp too!!! :screwy:

You know what I noticed...you can actually see the mouth of the RTCxTSN in the third pic. If you look down from the chin of the gulper you can see the bone structure of the mouth of the RTCxTSN.
