Errrr, i suppose arapaimas belong to arowana family. Bonytongues and all that? Anyway, herewith are some pictures of my neighbour's arapaima tiled pond. Have not actually measured it out, but it is fairly big. It gets really green (even though it has that green net covering) from time to time, but the fish have been growing over the years.

The main stable is market fish and .... pedegree dog food pellets (apparently refuses to eat any other pellets) ...just as well cause five of them would really burn a hole in the guy's pocket if hikari is used. Market fish is quite cheap here.

Hate to fall in that pool.

That's what the cat said too! :D

awesome pond! Dog food pellets, thats a first :D

I've always wondered about feeding dog food to larger fish, since you're right, hikari would get real expensive, real quick

That's pretty cool! How big are the fish? Also, how deep is the water? Might be the camera, but it looks kind of shallow, yet those big pimas fit in it. Pretty neat.

The water was shallow - i caught him doing his water change. That sorta explain why the fish are so very well visible lol.

Normally there is only 15cm from the top. The water is only truely clear during the dry season (Oct-Mar)...i.e. cold season when the sun is not out so much and it is not hot and humid. The catch is that fish are not very active also

The fish are quite huge. As a point of reference, those tiles are 20x20cm (8"x8"). My estimate is the average one is 1.5m (5 feet) the biggest one is close to 2m (7').

They are not so hyper like mine. ...but my biggest one is only 2' (seriously contemplating a second outdoor pond/aquarium seeing that RTCs and gars are not accomodating new comers ... i got phone call that one Pacu was killed last night ... i am definitely not risking my two foot paima)

PS: he tried mekong catfish but did not mix well (paimas got their scales kicked) so cats are in earth pond ... can't see nothing so did not bother to shoot

PS1: the photos are not so good (still learning about camera), but the coloring is really cool - he has to feed them fish in order to keep the color (dog food dulls their color so he needs to give fresh fish - much to his chagrin ... stingy guy...)
