Boy this thread is filled with so many haters. most of the posts are whining about fake corals and no sharks etc etc whaaaa whaaaa wine wine moan.

its always funny to see people so worked up and criticize so much for a project where they probably cant even afford the electricity bill. i dont know what it is, maybe jealousy?

rather than criticize, you should be happy you even get to see this whole process with pics. if you hate it so much, build your own. oh wait, mommy and daddy wont let you do that to THEIR house right?

hats off to you CSX, great job

Although it looks like CSX has no say in the matter and the owner can chose what he wants, if it were me and I am only saying if it were me, and I decided to have go salt water I would go real corals. There is just so much more fun in having real corals.

I wouldn't say I'm hating on the guy. my side is this was a great build that has slowly gone down hill due to lack of pics and detail. That's in no fault CSX it's the owner who is away and constanly changing his mind. Which we wree told ahead of time that he likes to do that. so I guess no big surpise there.

i just want to see more pics lol

If I might offer a thought?

Perhaps people ought to just be thankful for being able to see an inside glimpse into another monster fish keepers private world. I mean how often does one get invited into a persons house who has the capability and ability to put such a tank together.

An even funnier thing is that the owner of this tank probably has been watching this thread all along and he probably just shakes his head at the mini mindedness of some of the comments here. Most probably, if I were the one whos house and private aquaria dream was on show here for any to see who log in to mfk, I would have put the squash on this thread even existing by telling the builder permission revoked.

For in the end of the matter we should feel priviledged to be given the inside lowdown on this build, therefore it matters not that we dont like his choice of stock.

I would still love to see some updates on the tank.... all those people who keep saying that he should have put live coral must not have reef tanks otherwise they would understand that the setup would have cost 3x as much. Not to mention the continuous on going cost of the lights you would need for coral growth. I love the setup and would just like to see some new pics even if there hasn't been any changes in livestock. Truley a dream setup for us saltwater enthusiasts. But please more pics

First off, WOW! great tank

I'm looking to build a 1000g some time in the future for my Mbu puffer and seeing this has given me some insperation to get started :D

As everyone has their own dream, if this were my tank I'd just have about 6 different kinds of Puffers in there, but hey I'm a puffer nut :D

I have a couple of Q's about the filteration:-

1) If the 8ft tower is filled with Bio media and filter material how do you get it out to clean it (from the top or bottom maybe)?

2) I've read a lot of people say that SW tanks need Live Rock in order to Biofilter the SW properly and that bio balls etc are a Nitrate factory and create to much Nitrates in a SW tank. Why did you go for Bio media in the sump and not LR?

3) How come you didn't cycle the tank, again cured LR pretty much lets you add fish etc straight away as it has the good bacteria etc to deal with Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate etc?

Sorry if these Q's have already been asked, and I mean no offence by them also BTW

ps Any more pix :D

You would have to remove the media from the top, best way we do it is with large wet/vac suck all media into vac empty it into bag clean it with tank water and dump it back in.

2) I've read a lot of people say that SW tanks need Live Rock in order to Biofilter the SW properly and that bio balls etc are a Nitrate factory and create to much Nitrates in a SW tank. Why did you go for Bio media in the sump and not LR?

Bio-media is not a nitrate factory not sure were you heard that from. Bio-media is also has much more surface area for bacteria to grow, we just did not want to use live rock it is not necessary to use.

3) How come you didn't cycle the tank, again cured LR pretty much lets you add fish etc straight away as it has the good bacteria etc to deal with Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate etc?

We did cycle the tank we ordered a custom bacteria dose from Fritz turbo start to cycle the tank, you add the bacteria and add fish at the same time it cycles the tank very fast.

We also added an Ozone system last week, the tank is crystal clear and perfect now.

Of course I will get some pictures tomorrow when I make a trip over there.

um wow.. ? did u research anything bout saltwater?

1st its proven that bio media is a nitrate factor BUT not a prob with a fish only setup.. as its not as harmful to fish as it is to corals..

2nd USE LIVE ROCK!!!! ITS THE BEST FILTRATION EVER FOR SALTWATER!!!!!!! toss ur bio media!! its useless in saltwater!!!

3rd even tho those instant cycle bacteria procuct say add fish when u add the water.. u should really wait at LEAST a month for it to cycle properly. not instantly..

PATIENCE is key when doing this hobby.. u know this.. so is research..

how this helps.. good luck. hope ur fish live long happy lives
