so apparently crays are escape artists [as are many aquarium dwellers], and they get out a lot, but how exactly? is it mostly when you forget to put a top on or don't keep a top on? i'm just a little worried because i don't want mine to escape, lol. our room is a little bit of a mess right now and i'm just worried about being able to find her in a large house. the tank is only about two thirds filled, so there's about four or five inches from the water level to the top of the tank, and i keep one of those metal cage tops on the tank [the ones you can buy at petco or wherever, for reptiles and rodents and stuff] with a "monkey's fist" knot [one pound lead sinker about three inches round with rope wrapped around it; we bought it at cape cod this summer and apparently they're typically used on fishing boats] on the corner where the two wires for the filter and the heater come out [the only way she'd be able to climb to the top of the tank]. [okay, to sum up, without all the explanations: space between water level and top of tank, top on tank, and weight on the one possible escape corner]. i shouldn't be worried, right? i don't really wanna have to add my own story to this thread, lol. as cute as it sounds to see a little cray crawling across the floor :]
