My two sparsely populated peaceful SA tanks

I sold 4 of my Uaru Orange today and now I have fewer fish in 2 tanks than I used to in one. I am already seeing better colors and lots of breeding activity in the orangeheads, though.

But I have loads of room for expansion in the 135, which will soon be a 220. That tank used to be packed, it's weird seeing it this empty.

It's good that it is, though, since when I divided the fish I also divided the FX5s.

120: 6 orangeheads, 1 Discus (more Discus and tetras coming soon, plus better aquascaping)
135/220: Black Aro, 3 Uaru, 3 S. Leucosticta, 4 Geo. Abalios (needs more everything)

Still a crappy camera. The flash really washes out the fish in the 135 especially. I prefer the videos because the colors are more accurate (still a tad duller than real life). The 135 just has one old 40w AquaGlo on it and it's partially obstructed by a seam in the lids. I like having it kind of dark down there, though, as do the fish, I suspect.

(Any suggestions on what to add when I get the 220 set up? I'd like just maybe 2 more of each eartheater breed while they're still young, and maybe a big super red severum. Not really sure what else. Needs to be a mid-tank swimmer. Bear in mind that I'll also have a lot of wood in there. Thinking of a dark background and more natural or possibly mostly black sand as well)

Videos (can be watched in HD). They're pretty boring, but at least you can sort of see the fish accurately, unlike what happens with the flash:

120 yesterday
120 today (with orangehead feistiness and noticeably better color already)
220 today

Tanks and fish looking great - can't wait to see the update on the geo combo with discus & tetras - that is my dream SA setup!

I need to decide what tetras I want and then locate them...

I'm also having a hell of a time figuring out what colors I want for the Discus. I don't want a random assortment. I could go with some blues, some of the blue/red, and a red or two (so it all flows together), but that doesn't necessarily match the OHs. Or I could get San Merahs and others that might match better... or that could be too much, or their color might interfere with the geos... or just a few big blue ones. Blends with the tank BG and the OHs...

I'm very indecisive.

It's kind of amazing how much happier the littler eartheaters are downstairs now that they're out of the brightly lit hallway and into the dimly lit bedroom. Not only did the lighting change bring out their colors, but even after adding the Uaru back in, they're much happier, more active, and hungrier. The Abalios were pretty boring when I first got them. Not anymore.

Lookin good Dave! We need to get you a nice slim 3D background for the 120g to cover the blue. :naughty: Your Uaru are beastly thick!

A bit less sparsely populated now... 7 discus and 6 orangeheads in the 120 now. 7 is a good number. It'd hold more, but that would be too many.

With the flash on, the difference between the Red Melons and San Merah is less noticeable, but the Melons (which I initially thought would match) are basically that bright even with all lights off. They're like radioactive fish. So I'm thinking they don't match well and will need to be traded out for something else.

Bubba is happy to have some new blue friends, though.

Still need to re-scape the tank though.

Edit: I suck at counting. I added 7. I now have 8.

One more. I pulled my loner satanoperca baby out of a feisty fry tank where he was starting to get nipped. His top fin looks like it is going to be very colorful.

He's a bit stressed right now among the much larger fish, but there's plenty of cover for a guy his size, and now he's in much better water with his own countrymen.
