I swear, the Mbu is more needy than our dog when it comes to food. It's a huge crisis if he doesn't get crayfish every evening. I ended up putting glass lids over the open areas of tank not because I was worries about anyone jumping out but because he would splash SO MUCH water all over the living room floor when he got excited or was hungry.

HaHa LOL! I GOT to get one of these! In most scenarios, dont they kill all other tankmates??? I thought that puffers were really mean...

You mean you don't have your Mbu is a 10,000 gallon aquarium?? How cruel :) He looks good in there, I remember seeing our past photos of him.

I sure do miss mine, he was 24" and for whatever reason, he jumped out of the tank by busting through the glass tops. The Mbu is probably my all time favorite fish. He lived in a 180 for a while and then the 265.

Does he ever go after the other fish in the tank?
Fahaka, "yes". Mbu, "no".

Fish are not really on the Mbu's menu so don't even seem to register on his radar. In fact, a couple of the cichlids in there seem to be his buddies and always hang out near him. Like Cattle Egrets and cows, LOL. That being said, I would never put bottom-dwelling fish that are slow or lethargic (rays, bichirs, etc.) with any large puffer, Mbu or otherwise. That is asking for a disaster.

Thanks, he is part of the family by now.

i just love fish like this. They have such personalities and behaviors and over time just become "part of the family". I think that most giant gourami, oscars, mbu puffers and things like that would fit into that category... That "splashing for food" behavior just sounds so cool! :D
