Pseudostegophilus nemurus - I got one of these little buggers to do some research on. And it's sinister, lying there slient and will when wink one of it's eye at you and then in a flash try to catch some lunch; scales, slime and fins of any fish passing by.

Awesome. A monster that is unconvincing by it's size, but quite the opposite in it's behavior.

Those fish are evil.... I love them :p
In addition to scales, slime and fins they will also take large chunks of flesh out of a prey fish. Their attack methods are fascinating.

What type of research are you doing on them? I personally have worked extensively with this fish and have a large database of info on them. Need anything (Lit wise or personal observations) let me know..

Very cool to see another working with them.

Thanks Polypterus. I have pretty much given my report. I will hit you up if I need more info.
It is an interesting fish.
I am  that such small little buggers can be so predatory. My first parasitic fish experience.
I don't think I will keep it, unless I start a species tank. Because I am not just keeping one in a tank by itself and it is not going in my any of my other tanks.

You should see a tank of 25 of them feeding someday :D There is something about this that could be classified as Illegal in some states...These fish are very aggressive when feeding.

And yeah keeping them with other fish is a very very bad idea.

Its not all species that do that very nasty thing to ppl is it?
Common name Candiru applies to many species. Stegophilids such as this one are not the infamous ones those would be the fish in the Genus Vandellia. And all of this urinary misconduct talk associated with them is also rather overblown.

Interesting. I don't know if they are legal here, I've never seen them, although I'm sure many research centres/unis have them. I'd be tempted to keep it, just incase you don't get the chance again!
