yup i made my parents a mailbox from scratch
quick story how i did it
i measured a regular mailbox and made mine a lil bigger
i was worried about someone hitting it with a bat "dang kids" so i built it strong "i think"
built a frame out of 2"x2" and used 3" screws to hold it together.
cat loved this project as you can see.
then i skinned it with half inch plywood and 1 1/2" screws
then i cut and made a ton of windows and one door
added a flag,handle,hinges,and a cabinet door holder thingamabob
glued them all on with liquid nail
didnt get pix of the corner trim and paint
on the corners i used 1 1/2" flat wood and glued and nailed it on
the front trim pieces are made so water cant blow in.
hard to explain but water would have to go in,turn,in,turn,to get inside.
painted it with 3 coats of the paint that is on my parents house.
then i got a piece of my parents metal roof and cut it down to fit and glued it on.
then mounted a 2x10 to the posts i put in the ground "fun that was"
then mounted the mailbox and added the rope
