Snakeheads in Virginia

Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries biologists are tracking a population of non-native Northern Snakehead fish along a 50 mile section of the Potomac River and its tributaries, from Washington, D.C., to Aquia Creek. The snakehead is a predator fish native to Asia and considered an exotic species in Virginia. VDGIF fisheries biologist John Odenkirk discusses the potential impact the snakehead could have on native fish species as he conducts an electroshocking survey along with Game Department and USFW personnel. Electroshocking does not kill fish, but stuns them momentarily so they can be captured. On this day an unusually large number of Northern Snakeheads were found in Dogue Creek, a tributary of the Potomac River.

ey, that is tyte dawg.. i need to go over there and catch some snake heads like that.. thanx for letting me know an easy way to catch them.. hahahahha...

Awesome video. While I hate invasive species turning up in new places, I would have to say that after looking at the video, the snakeheads didn't seem to be decimating food populations at all. In fact, there seemed to be a plethora of potential food fish for all predators in that waterway. Maybe the "Voracious predator that eats anything and everything" tag is a little overblown?

Yup! In Japan Northern Snakehead were introduced as a sport fish then when they introduced Largemouth Bass later one the numbers of snakeheads dropped.

I wish they released the gigantic red SH's in FL. I would love to just have a huge one in my pond or something.
