Hey everyone here's a question I haven't seen yet, I have a 55 gal Red Bellied Piranha tank and to add a piece of "bad ass" decor, I put in a real coyote skull that I got from a store in NYC. I know the skull was professionally cleaned, but not by any chemicals or bleach. I was wondering if this was extremely hazardous for my water. All of my levels are normal and so far all that I have noticed is that the skull has a layer of algae on it. Anyone know anything? I know I'm probably not the first person to try this, and it really does look cool.

bone is completely inert, so as long as the bone hasn't absorbed any chemicals it is fine.

Could you post a pic of this? Surely I'm not the only one wanting to see your setup.

real skulls should be fine but personally I would seal it first just to be safe

I had a nutria (water rat) skull in my tank for a few years, and I'm not aware of any ill effects from it. I would just gently bleach it with the other tank decorations, when it got too green. I had a little catfish that would hide in the eyesocket.

I can pretty reliably acquire nutria skulls, since they are all over the marshes here, and alligators love them. If anyone wants one, I'd be happy to trade for any cool skull you might have. Or any other cool thing, I'm very open-minded.
