I just got back from Taiwan, checked out the local fish shops,AWESOME!!!
They all had great gear!
But I have never seen one of these before and had to get one to add to my set-up.
it's an above tank trickle filter.
It seems that this is a common filter in Asia, they even have units for 10 gal.
Unfortunately I ran into 2 problems...
The housing is made from very brittle plastic so it cracked while bringing it over to the states on a plane (used silicone to seal it up) and secondly, the pump runs on 110 volts so I had to get a step down transformer so I wouldn't fry the pump with 220v.
