I just got back from Taiwan, checked out the local fish shops,AWESOME!!!
They all had great gear!
But I have never seen one of these before and had to get one to add to my set-up.
it's an above tank trickle filter.
It seems that this is a common filter in Asia, they even have units for 10 gal.
Unfortunately I ran into 2 problems...
The housing is made from very brittle plastic so it cracked while bringing it over to the states on a plane (used silicone to seal it up) and secondly, the pump runs on 110 volts so I had to get a step down transformer so I wouldn't fry the pump with 220v.:WHOA:

a lot of asian fish stores i go to have all there setups like this. they usually mount it above and behind the filter kinda. pump sitting in the tank pumps it up, gravity brings it back down. very similiar to a lot of home made bucket trickle filters people make. but whatever works

Its cool.
You can put your tank flush against the wall with it correct?

I want one!

awesome how big is it?

more pics of tank with filter

is the tank better with it?

how does it work?

It's not running yet, because I'm waiting fore the step down transformer to arrive in the mail.
This will act as a secondary filter.

I seen these everywhere when I went back to visit my grandparents. They work very well, but I would still use a good sump or canister along with it.

Why dont you ditch the overseas pump and just use a powerhead instead?
