Armatus Questions

I am doing some research on these guys of course. i am suppose to have a coupel on the way for an 8ft. tank. Not sure if armatus or Tat, but anyway i want to be prepared. I think they are around 3 ".

Temp? I heard they like to run hot. Actually one guy who has a 12"er says he always keeps them around 85??? WOW seems kinda hot to me. Any input?? This is what concerns me the most. I am keeping things in the garage and the insulating is not complete yet so my tanks out there area round 85. ( Will finish the walls and then add the AC.) Should I run out and get a chiller?? (for 500$$ :( )

PH? I am sure they will be ok with just about anything around avg.

Current and O2?? I heard these guys need a lot of O2. Nothing like a schom., but should I go ahead and get a power head set up? I will probably be running the same filtration as in my 220. An FX5 and an aqua clear 300 with 1800 GPH pump. Think that will be enough current??

Also I am sure these little three inchers will be ok with a couple Rapheals and plecs.

I estimate about a week before arrival so any help will be appreciated. I was also thinking about moving them into another smaller tank. Should I even bother?? Thanks a lot in advance for any help given.

BTW I saw the other thread and it is some awsome info. I am not worried about growth rate or max size though. Thats why I added this thread. Sorry about that.

i'd suggest not having the plecos. at that size, if they get attacked/their slime sucked off by the plecos, it's gonna be fatal.

They do like warm water. Also the owner likes it too as they can get Ich. Warm water and salt would treat that stuff:D
I have a Pacific Imports GX model that pushes 4,750GPH and I am going to add some more current to the tank:naughty: (not much more). Fish from most Rivers need high currents in their home.
Just know that in about 6-8months you might need to re-locate them or get rid of 2, before they kill eachother. This is the 2nd most aggressive charicin behind the Amari

X2,X3,X4,5,6,7,8,9:D
Not worth the risk:grinno:

Cool man thx a lot for the response. So is 85 pushing it? Or should I get a chiller to be on the safe side? What do you think their max temp. should be. What temp do you guys keep yours at?
I could add a power head I guess for some more current.
I plan on giving the other one to a buddy of mine when he is ready..

Great man. Thx a lot you just saved me $500.00!!!! LOL, I guess if the temp got up too high I would see some signs of stress, and could always make an emergency trip to get the chiller. I just hope the little guys have a safe trip!

just remember, warmer water can hold less oxygen, so you want to have that extra pumped into the tank for the armatus. might not be necessary, but then again, it's a worthwhile purchase:)
