This weekend i have received a news that no MFKer should ever receive. See picture

I have finally decided to move my two arapaimas to outdoor 2400g aquarium from indoor 190g two weeks ago. The bigger one is populated by 2 alligator gars ... at least i hope they are gators (~24" each), 2 redtailed cats (~18" each) and 9" Oscar. Initially, i thought the risk was from gars ... how wrong i was. The attached photo is a tail of arapaima sticking out of RTC mouth ... while the other pics shows a worried Oscar (having said that Oscar has been around for awhile even before RTC)

Needless to say, the remaining arapaima was moved back inside - pending construction of a new outdoor aquarium (more info to come).

Lesson Learned? RTC can eat anything equal its own length!

PS: i wonder if Oscar will be eaten one of these days as RTC continues to grow

MAAANN that SUCKS BIGTIME!! YOu better get started on the new pond ASAP!

When i first bought my RTCs i was sold one defective one (but i really did not mind)... it does not have all whiskers.

They are quite murderous on bony tongues for some reason (they live happily with gars and Oscar ...so far). This arapaima is a second victim. Last year it ate a slightly shorter silver aro - much to my chagrin. The death of an equal size arapaima was a shock to me because i really did not think that it could (how wrong was i).

15 feet?!! the biggest i ever saw was 7-8 feet in Siam Paragon in Bangkok. Mine still have some space to grow. It is housed in 3x2x1.5m outdoor aquarium (two sides are glass - the other two are tiled).

Let's see how much will they grow. Hopefully 5 feet ... then some other arrangement would have to be made ^^

Sorry to hear it..
