The Most Desirable Pleco

Well it has appeared that the above pleco, L046 or zebra pleco, has become one of the most sought after plecos at current times. Would it be as popular if it was less expensive and more common?

There are other black and white striped plecos-why is it not these that share the limelight also? L098 and L173 being a less common form of L046. These fish only get to about 3.5-4", when others get bigger. But what about others?

Below are some examples of other black and white(ish) plecs and could go on... (top to bottom: L066-Hypancistrus sp. ‘king tiger’, L204- Panaque sp. "Flash pleco", L236-Hypancistrus sp. "white tiger", L257-Pseudolithoxus tigris, L260-Hypancistrus sp. "Queen Arabesque", L270- Hypancistrus sp. "chocolate zebra")

So what does it for you? I'm talking beauty, NOT personality, cause my common L083 would beat these hands down! So.... Discuss.

They are all cool looking. I don't know why one would be more popular than the rest. Then again I don't know that much about pleco's besides that they poop ALOT. My rhino pleco is pretty cool, it comes out when I come into the room. Most plecos that I have seen hide when you come close to the tank.
 
I think zebra plecos are pretty over- rated as well. I wouldn't mind haveing one of course, but IMO I think that the Queen Arabesque is a better looking than the zebra plecos.

If I was new to the hobby and I had a choice between those two plecos for the same price, I know I would have deffinately went with the queen arabesque vs the zebra. They just have a lot more going on as far as a pattern.
 
I think the big hype is just because of the price, and that suppliers/retailers make them out to be something way to hard to aquire. I give it 2 years and some one will start breeding them on mass scale, and they will drop down to more reasonable prices 75-100 versus current 200-???. Personally I like my L333 that was $40 and is about 5 inches long.
 
Gotta agree though the L260s are beautiful... toss up between that and the L333 for me. I like both, as well as the king tigers.
 
Scarlet pleco is my personal fave over all of em' regardless of $ :D
