I was working at my grandpas junkyard today and happen to see this in the corner of one of his sheds. I want to make an outside pond type thing with it that is above ground to keep my fish in for the summer. i go to school about 2 and a half hours from my himetown and i am bringing them back home for the summer and plan on keeping them in this thing. let me know what you guys thing i should do with it, my first plan is to cut the top off of it but im not sure wat to do from there

Nice gas tank in the BG :p

Find out what was stored in it before. If it was used to store pesticides, fertilizer, or fuel, it may not be fish safe. If that info is not available a quick litmus test would be to stick the old noggin inside and take a deep whiff for strong odors. After that I'd fill it with feeders for a week or so to see if they hold up. After that you're home free.

haha ive already givin it the ol sniffin test and it passed with flying colors but i am still going to set it up and test the water and buy test fish....but i was wondering more along hte lines of info like what type of filtration i should use and what all i need to do to it to get it fish ready

Well I'm gonna take a stab and suggest you're going dirt cheap here. I'd suggest getting a ued plastic 55gal drum and setting up a wet filter in that right beside the main pond/tank with a ~2000-3000gph pump. I'd also recommend going native or coolwater and sticking a hose in the pond on a trickle, with an overflow out the side somewhere. No water changes, no heaters, just a filter and some fishies.

Hey I think it would work add a few pumps on it and you should do good. Let the water sit for then aclimate your fish to it. I think with the right accessories it would look sweet

i am not sure how to set up a wet filter with a 55 galon drum but i assume it is on plenty of threads here? if not can someone give me the basics. as for the stock, i live in SC so i was wondering if i could keep my tropicals (jag,rd,oscar, 5 star general) in here for the summer and do you thjink it would be big enough to limit aggresion

poly 55 gallon drum filter.... and since it will be out side put a good amount of plants in it... anacharis water letuce hycynth etc... hell use nothing but plants for the filter... i would clean the crap out of it though.... scrub that thing with bleach... then fill it with water drain and refil several time... get some cheap fish put them in and see if they live
