I have moved into the new house, and after I remodel the basement, I will be building the 8 foot by 3 foot by whatever I decide tank.

Have lots of drawings & plans, and will start the build thread after the viewing lounge is done...

So then what is this post about?

Well, I was thinking about mounting the acrylic window from the outside (sorta) the tank will have a frame for it & then I would silly-cone the frame,, place the window in place & then bold on a retaining frame from the outside.

The thought is that the window will not need bracing during the fill (or empty process) as well as the limited space above the tank for a drop-in...

Other things to think about, the tank walls, back & bottom will be sealed separate & then bolted together, then sealed in the corners again...

Why? You ask... to minimize fumes inside the basement... There is no way to build outside & bring in whole, so I will build & seal the sides, back & bottom outside & bring them in for final assembly & corner sealing..

Thoughts on the window attachment method & general construction process welcome...

Again, once construction begins, there will be a new thread & LOTS of progress updates & pics...

Pictures are worth a thousand words ;). Can't wait to see the build!
Picture or sketch?

There won't be pictures for months, unless you want to see the empty basement.. I have a hunnydew list longer than my arm, the only thing that rates is the lounge, thats #1, but the tank is at the bottom & I cant work on it in winter, so the actual tank build wint start till spring :(

Sketches MS-Paint & Sketch-Up I can do for a general idea, but...

I wouldn`t put the window on the out side simply because of the huge pressure on it ,I have 130gal thats 72 " long and after its filled the front glass bows slight outward.it`s 1/2 " glass. thats a lot of faith brother

I would recommend putting the outer frame on at the same time that you install the window. I wouldn't want to rely on the seal of dry silicone. You might want to also look at using something other than silicone to seal the window as silicone does not adhere well to acrylic.

The plan is goop it & frame it.. only moments delay..

Anyone have ideas?

footnote: Remember the reason for the face attached window is not just to try something new. it is needed due to limited space overhead. I will not be able to get into the tank once the window is on.
