Anyone ever seen this image before?
If so, any idea what the hell it is (I know it's a pike cichlid), or where it's from??

I've seen it before and it was discussed amongst myself, O'Malley and Oliver that it is most likely a young Cr. sp. Tapajos I, Flame Pike, that has not developed its color in its entirety.

Why do I get the feeling that you KNOW what it is and are just teasing us??

Me? No!!
But I do wish to know if it could be an "Araguaia Red Tiger"? I am thinking not, though.

Being that red on the head i almost would think Lugubris Atabapo. Not too many pikes are that red in the head. Wish it were in my basement no matter.

yeah the red head makes me think atabapo too--as tapajos with a head that red would also have a very red body......but the base coloring of that yellowish color is more tapajos as atabapos are ususally greyer

I dunno, there is no humeral blotch, and it has a few differences in coloration. Its definitely one of the Lugubris group pikes. It might actually be the adult of Crenicichla sp. 'atabapo II'. THIS pike was labeled as sp. 'atabapo II' before it was decided that sp. 'atabapo fire' should be named that. Two different species with the same name designation. So perhaps we should call it sp. 'atabapo III' instead?

I know right? He is having too much fun rubbing all this in our noses!!! Starts keeping Crenicichla, goes crazy, and turns it all upside down with his awesome acquisitions!

We've seen that photo before, somewhere... Not a young fish - looks to be at least 11" or so. I lean more towards Atabapo I (than Tapajos I) due to black fin edging, could possibly be a seldom seen fully mature Atabapo II.

There are few photos & info on "Araguaia Red Tiger", that may be this fish...

Pretty sure it's not Atabapo II. There is no sub-orbital marking which is a hallmark of Atabapo II.

:iagree: Their sub-orbital marking is pretty pronounced. Doubt it fades with age.

Whatever species I posted, its very possible thats what the adults look like. They have the same body shape and colors generally.
