Howdy,
As outlined in --> THIS <-- thread, I have a massive phosphate issue with my tap water. 5 mg/L is way more than my plants can take up. I'd prefer not to clutter my tank with a Phosban Reactor, and I want to prevent phosphates from getting into my tank in the first place. Thus, I am planning on installing a phosphate filter into --> MY DRIP SYSTEM <--
My drip system runs at about 3 gal/h. Reactors with fluidized application need at least 20 gal/h, thus, that's out. I think I'll just get an empty Eheim 2260 filter pot and fill it, hooking it up in between my micron filter and my Chemilizer that injects Dechlor and ferts.
Online research yielded a few trusted media, and I'd like everyone's take on this.
Basically, these media are either aluminum-based or iron-based:
Aluminum:
Ferric Iron Oxide Hydroxide:
Anything else that I forgot?
Considering the risks of aluminum based media as well as price, I am leaning towards iron-based. Any comments, experiences, ideas? How does it work in your tank?
Please don't forget to vote if you have successfully used respective media.
Thanks,
HarleyK

Basically, these media are either aluminum-based or iron-based:
Aluminum:
- Seachem Phosguard
1L ($16) treats 300 gal
~ $5/100 gal - API Phos-zorb
5.25 oz ($7) treat 55 gal
~ $13/100 gal
Ferric Iron Oxide Hydroxide:
- Two Little Fishies PhosBan
150g ($16) treat 300 gal
~$5/100 gal - Rowa phos
100ml ($18) remove 1ppm phosphate from 630 gal
~$3/100 gal - Magnavore PURA PhosLock
150g ($12) treat 300 gal
~$4/100 gal - Warner Marine Phosar
125g ($17) treat 125 gal
~$14/100 gal - Drs Foster & Smith PhosPure (allegedly made by Magnavore)
1 tbsp (ca 30 g)/50 gal -- 150g=$9
~$4/100 gal
- Kent Marine Power Phos
150 g ($19) remove 1ppm phosphate in 300 gal
~$6/100 gal - Kent Marine Phosphate Sponge
only to be used for 8-48 hours, impractical for me
Anything else that I forgot?
