I'm going to upgrade to a 200gal,and I was wondering if a eheim 2080 and 2028 would be ok for a filter or will 2080 be ok by it self????

A wet/dry would be easier and simpler and then you could get a AC for mechanical filtration.

Howdy,

I am running a 2080 on my 220 gal, and I regret not getting a 2260 (or 2262 for that matter). The 2080 is a nice filter with great user comfort. However, you need to add extra filter floss to clear out all floaties because the design of the pads is very poor. I'd rather have a filter with fewer gadget but one that works without any tricks. If you ask me, the 2080 is not sufficient for a 220 gal /\/\onster tank. And I do not think the 20 gal difference between your and my tank are significant.
I will have to take down my tank when I move next spring, and the 2080 will not go on it anymore. I will get a 75 or 100 gal grow-out tank and hook it up. Instead, I will invest in a real /\/\onster filter, the 2262.

Adding a 2028 is an option, but why not go professional and get one of the big boys?! That way, you will have fewer hoses and longer cleaning intervals. Just simpler that way.

adding filter floss is also neccesary in the 2260.
Right. The 2260 is the classic design. Everything is added old school. Filter floss as well. I am aware of the design, since I have been running a 2211 for 16 years now.

The 2080 is supposed to be top of the line, but it is not. Everyone on this board knows I am an Eheim guy, but I have been greatly disappointed with the 2080 :thumbsdow . Added filter floss still does not provide the clarity of filtration with long cleaning intervals that I am used to from my other Eheims.

Biofiltration and circulation are optimal, but I do not expect anything less from my canisters.

perfect filters.
:shakehead The 2080 is anything but perfect. If you own a 2080, please describe your set-up and help me improve my filtration. If you don't, please do not post these remarks.

The reason why I believe the 2260/2 is top of the line is that I have successfully run that line for many years. There is no by-passing of the media as designed into the Pro 3. Whatever enters a Classic canisters has to work its way thru 18 liters of media. Obviously, that is not the case with the 2080.

Bottom line:
I believe the 2080 is not suited for tanks more than half the size of mine (i.e. no more than 110 gal). And even that has yet to be proven.

Interesting. I have a pretty thick layer of filter floss where the white foam went in my 2080, and it is on a 150, and have optimum clarity, with only bimonthly maintanence.

The German AAA conducts annual surveys of automobile brand satisfaction. Every year, Mercedes Benz ranks in the far low range. Average cars like Renault, Citroen, Mazda, rank far better.

Reason: People who purchase a high-quality luxury car want it to work perfectly. People who pay less expect less and are satisfied with what they have although their cars are not better than a Mercedes. I guess I am an unsatisfied Mercedes driver ...

Main question, and I hope you can help me here: How thick is "pretty thick? Half of the top basket? More?

See, I do not call that "only". My filters stand for 6-10 months before I clean them. It has worked well that way with the "Classic" line and with the "Pro1" line on comparatively more heavily stocked tanks. Last time I touched my Pro 3 was late July, flow is still strong.

If the Pro 3 has to be cleaned more often than the other Eheim lines, I call that a step down :( I will try it out, but it does not make me a happy Mercedes driver ...

Thanks for your input,
HarleyK

ps
I hope this helps faststang1 to decide on his original question, the origin of this thread.

So a 2080 and a 2028 will not be good enough??? Is the 2260 hard to clean????
does it have trays inside, anybody have pics...
Have you used Filter Felt for your filter, they say it cleans 50MICRON???
