A lot of you obviously know I'm working on perfecting my heavily planted/high tech 40b w/ a juvy piranha, breeding guppies, bamboo/ghost shrimp.

I know old school guys swear by tubes or cfls but with the advances in leds lately I'm sold on this fixture. It has 512 leds that include 5 different spectrum's, very slim and sleek! I damn near blinded my girlfriend and I when I tested it out!

I use to have 2x 36watt 6500k cfl's and one T8 GE floramax 24" tube, it grew my plants ok but with the addition of co2 injection I just some think the light isnt cutting it. I contemplated some T5ho fixtures but I don't like the bulb replacement every 9-12 months and power consumption.

The hagen fixture http://m.petco.com/product/122154/F...-Plant-LED-Aquarium-Lamp.aspx#description-tab comes with a 5 year warranty and has a 50,000 hour guarantee which equates to 5.7 years @24 hour/day of lighting, BUT @ 8 hours/day of lighting this fixture will last 17.1 years!!!!! This is debatable and I will be a shrivelled old man when I can truthfully say it lasted 17 years but either way the idea of NEVER replacing a bulb and using only 35watts is rad!

Here is the fixture out of the box:

Just a few timers for solenoid, bubbler, lights, diffuser etc lol

Had to make a custom Aluminum bracket siliconed to the brace because my ac110 is mounted on the opposite side, turned out great:

Night light, too bright for my tank tho:

Hope you enjoyed and will update the progress of the plants with the new fixture, hopefully I will incur some positive results and great growth whilst save $$ on my power bill :D

Thanks for looking! Cheers:beer:

Looks good. My preference for t5ho stems from led strong enough for plants were extremely expensive until very recently, didn't make sense to spend several hundred dollars on led and have to wait 3+ yrs to break even.

Nice. I've seen this on Amazon and Petco, but neither seems to have any output rating on it (wattage, PAR, lumens, anything). Do you happen to have any more info on it for comparison purposes?

Exactly! I did much research in finding the right fixture and adding up the bulb replacement vs led life and imo led with this size tank is the way to go! Its like buying a hybrid vs a gas hog, one u need to fill up a lot and the other is more $$ upfront but long-term pays off!

There are 2 variations of this fixture. Once is for purely aquarium lighting http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00AYUXYBI and the other for plants http://usa.hagen.com/Aquatic/Lighting/LED-Lighting/A3981

The lumens are 2980 for the 35watt model from the website but the box says less:

The par ratings are on the box but I'm on my girlfriend and ours 5th anniversary date so I will get back to you later when I stumble in the door

It shows the lumens in the one picture he took of the box, 2500 something.

Originally not all the pics showed up on my phone, so I didn't see the box pic the first time around...

Can anyone (not on a date) explain PAR vs Lumens vs LUX?

Yeah that's totally weird.

I would suggest the website is more updated due to the fact that packaging can be outdated?

Par values are hard to find but the spectrum of colors are great!

Its a very well made system with tons of 6500k leds so I'm sure it will perform great. Ill let the plants do the talking!

Right on. Was just looking for those values because I've read good things about the Odyssea fixtures as well, so wanted to see if they stack up. They're a lot less coin too, but I'm sure there are other variables involved, just want to have the knowledge to investigate as many of those variables as I can.
Always try to do apples to apples when I can...

Edit: For some reason I had it in my head that the Odyssea were LEDs as well, but they're T5HO, so I guess its not apples to apples after all... My mistake there...
