as far as i'm aware, japan is the only place i've seen with true P. bichir bichir, so i've only seen pics of them on japanese sites and in japanese books.

they are, but only to a few RICH individuals in japan. these fetch quite a hefty price tag, and even if you have the cash, its still a matter of luck wether or not you can find somebody with one that is willing to sell.
 
They endangered or in a war zone? Why are they so hard to get, and how did the Japanese do it??? how much money are we talkin... I'll put $29.99 on one. Seriously, why are they so elusive?
