1st Labeobarbus (Yellowfish) ever exported out of Africa? I've been wanting this genus for a long time, now i had the pleasure to keep several of them. I'd expect to get those identified species, the common ones because they're much easier to obtain. Didn't expect to get an undescribed sp.



Labeobarbus sp. from Malagarasi, Tanzania.



Beautiful fish, deep red tail with bluish dorsal.



Very similar to Mahseer species in Asia. Except for the dorsal shape. This probably be covergent evolution.



Very strong blue coloration on the dorsal. They just arrived when i take photos of them. Their colors should be more vibrant after a week or so.



Very thick median lobe (lower lip extension)

Another species that get mixed up with the Labeobarbus. It was a Varicorhinus sp. but some african experts says that this is not a valid genus in Africa but found research papers that done studies of the fish that mentioned "Varicorhinus" but according to new studies in 2015, they concluded that African Varicorhinus are synonymous with the Labeobarbus. But with my understanding of mahseer type fish, those morphological traits that are way too extreme to be in the same genus. Further research needed.



Chiselmouth as they called it. Chisel/scraper type mouth that are design to graze on algae. But this fish will eat about anything just like Labeobarbus. They can be caught on fly.



Very deep bodied with long dorsal, almost look like a Labeo but Labeo has smaller scales.



This Chiselmouth species has reddish to orange coloration on their fins



2 species in 1 shipment, both are rare, that's a good thing for a 'mahseer' collector.

Just got news from a friend of mine, he had 3 types of Labeobarbus. The 2 species that I had & yellow to red colored species.



That's interesting, even the mouth shape are different. It looks almost similar to the infamous Tanzania Yellowfish but to my understanding, this yellow ones are from the east side of the Tanzania, these Labeobarbus shipment are from the west side.
