Very cool! I am totally unfamiliar with these fish. Apparently they reach 1 foot in length. That’s no petty little minnow! (or equivalent term for bottom fish)
They are found as far north as Florida, and south on the coast of Brazil.
The largest I have seen, and caught is about 7" (the one above).
They don't put up with any guff even from the larger cichlids, but are not overtly or intentionally aggressive, but quite animated when food is offered.
They remind me of mudskippers without being terra firmer walkers themselves.
We stand in the middle of the Mamoni river (and a few others here) where there is a fairly strong current and randomly cast.
I test pH and nitrate wherever I collect, nitrate where I have found them is always undetectable, pH 8 or above.
There were never many, we'd catch 2 or 3, compared to dozens of tetras.
