I just picked up a brown ghost knife fish it looks exactly like a black one but it is milk chocolate colored with the same stripe down the for head and the dots and rings on the tail it is about 8" at the moment.
Any info on this fish would be great are they a man made color form of the black ghost knife or are they a different ssp. ?
And if they are a different ssp. what is their max size lfs didn't have much info.

Different species. I think A.leptorhynchus

IDK max size. I have never seen one as big as the bigger black ghosts. In fact, 8" is about the biggest ones we had at the lab

They weren't nearly as aggressive as black ghosts either. We routinely kept them in groups or with other knives. rarely did that with blacks (especially not with more than one black in the tank)

Thanks for the info it is in with a small 2" australian short necked turtle and 2 pleccos about 1" and has shown no aggression at all.

8" is the max size. They aren't as aggressive as BGK (which are pretty mellow themselves, IMO).

that brown ghost looks.. different than the ones we had. Its head shape seems odd. ours had a more elongated head. maybe just a blurry shot thing?

lol, I thought it, but didn't say anything, as I have no experience with the species. Otherwise I'd agree that the Brown Ghosts that I have seen had a more elongated "head".

EDIT: Perhaps a BGK variant ?
