I decided to build a pond in my garage for some of my larger fish so I am starting a thread to share the progress as I go.

It will be an L shape and should end up around 400g total. The main area will be about 4'x4'x2.5' and the L part will be 3'x2'x2.5'. So the longest point will be about 7'.

I just picked up 23 2"x4" today and I already had 2, so I have 25 of those. I also got 10 sheets of 2'x4' 1/2" Plywood. I will need more Plywood for sure along with the foam for the inside. There will be no bottom, just foam. Which will also be on the sides.

I've already ordered the liner which is a 15'x15' Firestone EPDM 45mil liner. I am waiting for it to be shipped right now.

I have to take down the 50g hex garage tank to make room for this so it's going in the living room and being converted to a salt tank because I want one again. Then my 100g will get taken down which is currently in the living room so I can use all the pumps, heaters, filter media, and so on for the pond. I'll have a ViaAqua 1800 pump (480gph) and a Quiet One 3000 pump (780gph). I'll have a 200w Stealth and 300w Hydor Inline Heater. So this should be enough heat and pumps to get the pond started and I have PLENTY of Scrubbies and other media from the 100g since it has a 200g sump full... So all the 100g fish get upgraded to the 200g and those fish from the 200g go in the new 400g pond. I will just be using 5g Buckets for Filters, the pumps will lift the water into them and it will run through the media and out the bottom. I will add a powerhead or two as I am sure they will be needed along with some more heat I bet.

It's gonna be a basic 2"x4" frame with 1/2" plywood insides lined with foam.

Here is what $150 worth of wood in a Honda Hatch looks like...

Here is the spot it's going... You can see the basic shape and why the 50g has to go first.

I'll add more as I make progress...

Thanks. :)

Here is the update for everyone today. I need more plywood and also the foam to line the inside. I am also going to get a bit of normal wall insulation and put it in the wall I can't get to when it's full and plywood the outside on that end. Then I will do the rest later since I can do it when it's full. It won't need that until winter anyway. I just have to do the one spot now because I can't get to it when full. Then wait for the liner to show...
