Caught a reverse trio of these today. Going off of where I caught them and the angle of their ears, I can say with confidence that these are (probably) natural intergrades between northern and longear sunfish. They seem to have lost the red in their ears though, so it's probably been a long time since they interacted with their northern ancestors. I'm surprised how well they keep their colors in captivity, green sunfish would be jet black or slate grey by now.
