Fish. Hot Brazilian fish!

Watch it now. My beautiful wife is from Brazil :)

Better late than never. Sometimes that saying is applicable, like in this case - I hope. I received an awesome variety of many less frequently imported species a couple of weeks ago from Brazil.
Thankfully many aquarists and business owners do check out my web page stock list frequently. I update that list several times weekly as fish come and go from my facility on a daily basis.
It was a busy week of sales prior to my being away last week. I apologize for not being able to post photos of new stock over here sooner.
Please keep in mind that just because you didn't see a fish here in a photo doesn't mean that those species posted on my stock list aren't being sold and shipped worldwide each week.

Below are some of the goodies that are relatively new to my stock from Brazil.

argy2.jpg

argy3.jpg

One of my all time favorite cichlids! Geo. argyrostictus is a fairly large growing earth eater species from the Rio Xingu that can reach about 8" TL. The 5" sized fish seen in first photo is not for sale (it's one of my personal collection), but the better than fine looking 3-3.5" sized fish as seen in 2nd photo are most definitely available @ 75 each.

alt.toc.jpg

alt.toc1.jpg

From the Rio Tocantins, here is rather large growing (approximately 10" adult size) and showy earth eater known for both vivid coloration as well as development of long fin filaments on mature fish.
The 1st photo was taken some time ago of a young adult and included for reference. The 2nd photo was taken of current stock which are 3.5-4" @ 65 each.

This undescribed species from the Rio Tapajos has most recently been referred to as Geophagus sp. 'Tapajos ll'. They've been incorrectly called Geo. megasema by exporters in years past. This is not a very large growing species. I have never seen them over about 6". The vivid yellow color seen on this species is truly extraordinary. Current stock are 4-4.5" @ 75 each. The 3rd photo appearing above is of same species taken some years ago for additional reference.

jurup.para.jpg

From the northern and easternmost waters of it's documented habitat (Para state of Brazil) comes a robust bodied Satano. jurupari sporting attractive lime green color. Specimens currently available are 4-5" @ 40 each.

lapid2.jpg

While I did import Retroculus lapidifer juveniles as seen in above photo, these quickly sold out. I intend to bring in more on future imports.

I also have wild juvenile Acarachthys heckeli on hand of 1.5-2" size @ 15 each which have not yet been photographed.

bujur.brazil1.jpg

bujur.brazil2.jpg

Here is a very rarely seen, undescribed acara from the Brazil state of Para. Clearly an upstanding member of the genus Bujurquina, this fish occurs thousands of miles north and east of waters where other Bujurquina species are found.
There are very few photos and even less info available on this particular species. I believe this could be a great species to work with for any acara fans out there.
Current stock consists of fish from 3-4" size @ 50 each.

buckel1.jpg

buckel3.jpg

buckel2.jpg

Another Brazilian acara species, this small growing gem belongs to the genus Laetacara. The trade name 'smiling acara' has been given to species of Laetacara. This terminology refers to the slightly angled 'mustache line' located just above the upper lip.
These gorgeous dwarf cichlids are 2" @ 15 each.
The 3rd photo appearing above was taken about 15 years ago and depicts an adult male for reference.

spec5.jpg

spectab.jpg

spectabilis.jpg

Quite the rare import in recent years, I received a small quantity of 4-4.5" Caq. spectabilis @ 125 each.
It's no coincidence that the Latin species name assigned to this fish sounds like our word 'spectacular'! Indeed they are.
The top photo is of current stock while the 2nd and 3rd photos were taken of previously maintained, larger individuals for reference.

piraya.jpg

mety.mac1.jpg

mety.mac2.jpg

schom3.jpg

All above species of Serrasalmids are currently in stock from latest Brazil import. I had a small quantity of Xingu rhombeus as well but never even had the opportunity to photograph any.
Please refer to below posted stock list for each species' size and price.

Many beautiful and interesting catfish/pleco species were also imported. I will post photos below of some species for reference.
Once again, please refer to below posted stock list for each species' size and price.

The last photo posted immediately above was a first time import for me of a rarely seen Pimelodid cat. I do believe that a customer of mine who received one of these correctly identified this cat as Exallodontus aguanai - just in case anyone wanted to know....

I also received several Tetranematichthys wallacei cats but there were shipped out before I took any photos.

Plenty more very interesting, very attractive fish to check out in below stock list!
