plus tank bred juveniles of many less common species such as heterospilus, bartoni, red istlanum, yellow labridens, nanoluteus, etc..

nigrescens.jpg

Mighty cool 'black snook' in stock of 5-6" @ 100 and 7-8" @ 125 ea. - all in 100% fresh water

gris4.jpg

In 100% fresh water, these juvenile 'grey snapper' are thriving. Here is a really different fish that can hang with larger growing cichlids or other larger growing species.
They may superficially resemble a cichlid at first glance, but to see them in action, you'd see they move quite unlike any cichlid. They are gregarious at this size (form loosely associated packs) and feed ravenously.
Sizes are 2-2.5" @ 40 ea and 3-3.5" @ 50 ea.

rham.nic1.jpg

rham.nic.jpg

For the purists that want to keep a Central American catfish with their C. Am. cichlids - or to keep just because!
These are active during the day as well.
3-5" size range @ 25 ea.

asty.aeneus.jpg

asty.aeneus1.jpg

A C. Am. tetra that will add movement, color, bling, and interest to any most any tank. These max out around 4-5", so best suited to tanks w/o guapotes present!
They are of 2-2.5” at 12.50 or 5 lot @ 10.00 ea.

p.mex.male.jpg

Large, colorful wild sailfin mollies from eastern slope of Costa Rica.
3-3.5" @ 45 trio (that's one male and 2 females)

holdridgei.jpg

An attractive, smaller sized live bearer that would be great for small communities, planted tanks, or plain fun to breed as they are quite rare in the trade.
The male is the smaller of the fish pictured. Once again, my photos leave much to be desired. Feel free to copy and paste this name [ Brachyrhaphis holdridgei ] in your browser to view more appealing photos of same species.
The fish are 1-2" (males of the smaller range, females of the larger) @ 40 for a 5 lot.

IMG_9073.JPG

Here's an odd one to check out. The 'dovii killifish'! And they get quite large (by killie standards - to 6").
I only received a few, so hopefully more to come in future imports from Costa Rica.

And finally. Enough with the non-cichlids as some you may have been thinking while viewing this post.

Wild guapotes from the Rio Banano on the SE (Atlantic slope) of Costa Rica (close to Limon).
There are juveniles of 2-2.5" at 15.00 or 5 lot @ 12.50 ea.
4-5.5" sized pairs @ 75 pr and 6-7" males @ 50 ea.

kanna.fem.jpg

kanna.male.jpg

This southernmost occurring convict species, A. kanna, were also collected near Limon from the Rio Banano.
They are an average of 2.5-3.5" @ 18 ea. Very cool purple hue on mature males - of which there are extras in stock for folks who don't want to breed the fish, but would prefer to include one as a colorful addition to their tanks.

siq.temp.jpg

siq.temp.male.jpg

Just taking the opportunity to post pics of a convict species collected from the Rio Tempisque that I received on a previous Costa Rica import. These are in stock as well at 2-2.25" size for 12.50 ea or 5 lot 10.00 ea, 2.5-3”+ size for 18.00 or 4 lot 15.00 ea, or 2-3" sexed pairs @ 35 pr.

manag.siquirres.jpg

Wild 'Costa Rica jags' on hand. Wild collected managuensis definitely exhibit a more predatory (wolf-like) appearance as compared to the commercially bred, more rotund/shorter-faced standard retail stock.
These fish arrived from two locations. The 3-3.5" @ 18 ea and 4-4.5" @ 25 ea were collected from the Rio Tempisque on the Pacific side of the country.
The larger sized stock of 6-7" @ 40 ea were collected near Siquirres in the Rio Pacuare watershed.

cent.sq.fem.jpg

cent.sq.male.jpg

Very large flier cichlids also collected from the Siquirres vicinity are available at 5-6" size @ 50 ea. They were still quite shipping-shocked when I photographed them. These fish really color up beautifully with yellow, green, and blue once they settle down. Not an aggressive species, they can be kept with similarly sized and even smaller fish.

multi.temp.jpg

Here's another non-confrontational, soon-to-be-a lot-more-colorful species. They don't call them 'rainbow cichlids' for nothing!
Given some time to settle down and mature, this species really displays well in sm-md sized communities. They are 25 ea or 4 lot @ 22 ea.

IMG_9176.JPG

IMG_9175.JPG

Wild 'black belt cichlids' collected from known origins. That's not something you see often.
These were collected from the Rio Banano. They are already displaying some bold markings and red tail.
The 2.5-3” size are 18.00 ea or 4 lot @ 15.00 ea and the 4-4.5" size are 35 ea.
I received a large adult of 8-9" size @ 85. I will try take a photo of that fish and add to post shortly.

IMG_9130.JPG

I received a very limited quantity of large male rostratus @ 100 ea.
This is such a rare commodity - particularly at this large size! Very cool species to keep in md-lg communities.
The long, sloped snout is very 'earth-eater' like as they do indeed fill similar ecological niches.
But I swear the C. Am. cichlid complex is not unlike Jurassic period fauna. Many of the fish have evolved to super sized dimensions!
You won't find substrate-sifting earth eaters of 'rostratus-size' in all of S. Am..

I received very limited quantities of the below Cryptoheros species as well. None are still available, but hopefully there will be greater quantities collected for future imports.

And then I did mention that there are some captive bred goodies that are new to my stock.
As juvenile American cicihlids rarely are much to look at, I will simply share some adult photos of a few of the recent additions to the list.

You can find these fish and all other available species posted in the below stock list or, as usual, on the stock list page of my web site.

It's a terrible photo, but it's all have to share at this time. This jumbo pair of nicaraguensis is available @ 100 pr

IMG_9189.JPG

I'll end the photos with this gorgeous female tri-color/bull's eye motoro. She's 8-9" @ 225
I'll be sorry to see her go as she's really a hoot. But no more pet rays for me! She will definitely impress even the most motoro-connoisseur keepers out there.
One day I'll take some pics to share of the rays I am maintaining...
