If yowant one of the best for quarium sealants, look here, they have the industrial version of GE Silicone I, which is RTV108, at a very reasonable price. I just used it to reseal my 120. http://www.angelsplus.com/SuppliesFishroom.htm
im new here, and need to reseal a leaking 120 gal tall aquarium. how has the rtv108 been holding up? and any other tips or suggestions other than whats already been posted? thanks!

The 120G Tank is doing great. The main guidance is, tak your time. Do a search for DIY Aquarium sealing, or so. YOu'll find plenty of good info.

The black sealant is just as good. It's a matter of preference, that's all. You will pay a bit more for it though. I had a 47Bow with black sealant, it looked quite neice.

I hate to drag this thread into more pages... But the 100% GE Silicone 1 or II both say not safe for aquariums, its the last sentence in the directions on the back of the tubes.

I found a small tube of "Aquarium Sealant" that is "Food Safe" but it also read not to submerge more then 18" under water.

I have a 75 gallon glass i'm thinking of re-sealing, so I'm still looking for a 100% silicone that is food safe (aquarium safe), yet rated for more then 18" under water.

Take a look at rthe SCS1200. Be prepared to buy a case. You can also look at amercan aquarium products, they sell DAP.

I got this from their website...

"GE Construction® SCS1200 silicone sealant is not recommended for use on submerged joints, especially where porous substrates permit water infiltration to the bond interface. However, effective aquarium applications are being accomplished." http://www.piedmontplastics.com/htm...ction_SCS1200_Series_Silicone_Sealant-400.htm

Kinda sounds like Damn if you do, Damn if you dont. However I did not see anything stating it was food or aquarium fish safe.

This is the quote from the small tube of sealant I used on my 30 gallon.

"DAP® Household/Aquarium Adhesive Sealant Long-lasting 100% silicone rubber sealant provides a strong waterproof seal that won't crack or shrink. Ideal for quick household repairs and projects, as well as building and repairing aquariums. Harmless to fresh and saltwater fish. Safe for food contact. Dishwasher and microwave safe." http://www.dap.com/product_details.aspx?BrandID=67&SubcatID=27

But on the back it states not to submurge more then 18 inches.

Well I am going to be building a new tank and want to try this out. This will be for saltwater tank but all the other forums have not been much help. With all this MASSIVE tanks that are built I think you guys will be able to help me on choosing a sealant.

I am using a 1" Type 1 PVC board for the bottom of my tank. I will be using a rabbet router bit to route out 1/2" down and over to fit 1/2" glass for the sides. This will give it more room to bond also.

My big issue is what DOW or silicon to use. Some people have said use the DOW 795 and make sure to cure for over a month. Can you guys recommend any others or will DOW 795 do the job?

Thanks in advance! You guys have some AWESOME systems on here

has anyone used these with good results? i want to reseal my 125gallon but i dont know which to use. here in Hawaii, i only have access to GE Silicone 1 ... but want to go stronger. But do I? will GE 1 be good enough? what do you guys think?

also how many 300ml tubes do i need to seal a 125?

The sealant you're looking at is the same as GE I. You can also look at www.angelsplus.com. They have RTV108 by the 10oz. tube, which is the COMMERCIAL equivalent. If you want stroger, see if you can get momentive products SCS1200.
