Where are these 5 mbus? Did you keep them until they died in their late teens?

I love how you always assume ****....:banher:

The first big MBU I had died from a power outage.
The second one I got the same time as the first one, I sold it to my buddy who held my big mbu till my tank was ready.
The third one I had at about 5" and again sold it to a buddy.
The fourth one I got off a vendor here at about 12". I traded him in on fish because at the time I didnt have another tank to keep him in when he started nipping fins in my community tank.
The fifth one I have now for over a year now and isnt going anywhere.

What makes you think he is going to die because he is in a fish prison??

Im currently upgrading all my tanks to wider footprints. But as of right now the MBU is just fine. I'm looking to get him a 36" or 48" wide tank but till then, he will stay where he is.

You are more than welcome to come see my MBU to check on his health anytime you please, give him a physical, be his dentist, check his cataract out, etc. if you are worried about my MBU and everyone elses, buy me a tank that you think is suitable for him, I would appreciate it.

For the record, what puffers do you own and what setups do you have for them or it?

Was just skimming some of your posts and came across Filbert. You put a Fahaka Puffer in a community tank and you started seeing fish vanish or missing fins, etc. Didn’t you Google how ferocious these fish can be? So basically you let a puffer murder your fish and kept it in there for longer periods of time? So your fish were suffering? Also, you had it in a 125 right? I’m going to guess standard 18" wide tank, you must have known these fish can reach up to 20" right? So why didn’t you have it in a 600 gallon 5 foot wide tank? Just curious.... http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136649

Also read your post on I guess your site about your experience with your MBU. You seemed to have an extremely large MBU in a extremely small tank to begin with. This to me seems like an isolated incident. I’m sure there are more stories out there just like what you did but that doesn’t mean we all do the same you did.
To go around saying this fish needs to be in a 1000 gallon tank is over the top. While there is absolutely nothing wrong with housing any size MBU from 1" to 30" in 1000 gallon tank, not every can afford to have one that big. These fish will survive in much smaller tanks and live healthy lives if the owner takes proper care of them. And not al MBUs are the same. Like I said in a post on here before, my MBU is lazy and lays on the bottom all day, most of my MBUs have done this, thou the smaller they are the more active they were. IF you have an MBU and he is overly active, hurting himself, freaking out, having a hard to turning around, then yes, it’s time for a bigger tank but if you don’t see that, most likely the MBU will be ok.

Cool, but I think your going to stunt there growth and give them caudal fin damage possibly kill each other keeping them all on one arm! That many puffers together need at least 20,000g size arm. They don't look happy..

Now that's funny! I could gain 100lbs & that might give them more room.

You are right about Filbert. We all make mistakes & I am willing to admit it. He is in a tank that is too small for him & I have admitted that here & on my forum, often. I got him 10 years ago & there really wasn't much info on them on the web at that time. I do not have the room, nor the finances to get him the 180+g tank he deserves. As far as his tank mates. he does leave them alone. He is a gentle giant. The tank mates he's with now, all get along great. I don't know why he picked certain fish to hate, after living with them since they were juvies. 99% of fahakas are killers. I don't recommend keeping fahakas with other fish if they show any sign of aggression.

I see to often in LFS MBU being fed live feeders. The MBU are always skinny almost to a point of deformed looking. These fish don't eat live fish. They want clams shrimps snails crawdads. If you force your puffer to eat live fish when there young IMO this could make them aggressive towards all fish. My MBU has never attacked any of my fish. I even kept him for awhile with a tank full of Dovii fry. I only moved him cause the fry were accidentally swimming into his mouth. I agree what MasterB says about knowing when your puffer needs a bigger tank. Mine like his sits on the bottom mostly. He only gets active when he's hungry. This doesn't mean he not happy he got 8 feet of tank space to move around. Big MBU are not like little spotted green puffers that zip around. They move slowly they never pace the tank. Only when its feeding time when he see's me he will get very excited.
