2 years. Hit the 2' marker in my 150g and stopped growing. Had him for about 4 years, real gental giant!

well thank you i thought would be average 2 feets in captive didnt know in captive or not they would grow average the same 
and im not gonna question the article made but could it be a typo about the length?
i quoted the article made below and the author did great job and very good effort

dang i dont think i can take care of it any longer for it to be comfy if mine reached over 3 feet..might have to donate or trade with LFS

Actually as long as the tank is big enough for the to stretch out they should be fine. Mine at ~3' curls into a ball at the right of my tank. Mine is a very slow clumsy eater. Got picked on a lot in his old home so I got him/her for $20. The main issue is them being picked on and not getting enough food. Really a whole lot of fun to watch.
