im a new member here ive been keeping a female motoro for about a year now she is roghly 10" she is housed in a 250 gallon tank 96"x30"x24" i recently purchased a male marbled motor for now he is in a 180 with a 180 gallon sump he is only 4" once i put some size on him he will go with my female anyway i am looking to set up another ray tank and have the opputunity to get a 48" long by 48" wide by 24" tall tank i know most people say 72" minimum for rays but will the added width help out any? looking for some opinions if this would make a good ray tank

I would go longer. My tank is 120" x 48" x 24" and I'm only keeping a trio of rays.

Your 250 gallon tank which with those dimensions should be a 300 gallon tank actaully. will house two rays easy. No need to get another tank. Everyone is going to say you need bigger but honestly your large tank which if you have it right being 30 inches front to back is really a good size tank. Will house 2 rays great. Ya even larger may always be better but seriously its big enough. People that say your going to need an 8 foot long by 4 feet front to back are just saying that to say it, not really thinking about the space you have and the two rays which will fit easy.

They will fit for a long time but your female is gonna get huge and this tank would be kinda small for a 24 inch female

thanks for the replies i was thinking about getting this tank for another species maybe some leopoldi or something along those lines if the 48x48x24 would work im just planning on keeping the pair of motoro in the tank i already have maybe pick up a marbled motoro female down the road i figure ill upgrade there tank when the time comes but seeing as how the male is only 4" right now i figure i have some time

Can I ask how quickly your motoro grew? Say in 6 month segments? I've got a 5-6" wide juvenile in a 75 gal, wondering how soon I'll have to upgrade..

Also, a round of applause for DIDYSIS, I find the majority of questions on here get responded with "Oh you should have a minimum tank size of 500 gal for your currently 6 inch fish, you must be a moron, get a betta".... It gets a bit old I must say!
