Hi guys, I've been looking into buying a single diamond sturgeon for quite a while now and I would like to hear an outside opinion. If bought, it will be around 5 inches or less from a local (and trusted) retailer. My problem is the size. I have a 100 gallon tank, and a stocked and well-kept pond behind my house roughly 2 acres in diameter (give or take). I wish to keep it in a tank until it is large enough to play with the big boys. Comments? Suggestions? Any prior experience would be GREATLY appreciated before I take the plunge. I do have experience with larger fish, with about 5 – six year old koi, as well as full grown pleco's if that helps.

I have never heard of a fish called single diamond sturgeon. What exact species of sturgeon is it?

My cousin has diamond, white and Russian in his pond. All fish were grew out 12"+ before they were added to the pond. It's best if your grow out tank is round , or has a larger footprint because they swim like sharks. If it's a typical 100gl it just won't last you that long as diamond grow 12"+ in its first year if fed and cared for.

How big did you want to grow it until you plan in releasing it?

You have a big pond. Why not go white over diamond?

I personally think the diamond look the best is the main reason. My girlfriend loves the larger types of fish whenever i can keep them in the 100g, so the idea was to get the slowest growing one possible. However that doesn't sound like what I had in mind haha.

The white diamonds look the best! I personally like the face of the white vs the diamond. And like the body of the diamond vs the white. But hey, you won't being see much of it in your massive ass pond...lol

Forget your 100gl. You won't beable to keep it in there for very long.

I would plumb a 5' round tank to your pond and grow it out.

I would like to see the picture of them fish. Russian(or diamond) sturgeon is listed as critically endangered, so it should be illegal to keep in the US.
