First lemme just say that you’ve been a great inspiration (and still is) on my building of my own tank.. (or a bad influence..lol.. but I don’t think so) I hope you don’t mind my pinging of you to pick your noggin over a couple issues on keeping fish in big tanks….

Have you ever dealt with any sort of disease outbreak? If so, what do/did you do? It seems to me that except for perhaps quickcure for Ich or Melafix for bacterial outbreaks…that just about any other med would be too expensive to be cost effective for treatment on a full tank to be feasible.

Also, can you catch an individual fish if you had to?

Because of these and other issues I’m of the frame of mind that anything that happens to a tank past a certain size just has to run its course naturally. What is your opinion? I'm thinking you'll probably say that you would drain the tank if you had to, to either catch fish or to do a massive water change in the event of an outbreak. What would you do differently if you had to pay for water? (advise for the rest of us...)

I also noted in your article that you’re able to leave your tank to filter the water naturally with no pumps on except air pumps… have you ever got to a point where you might have specifics on this? Bioload + certain volume of water = naturally equalized filtering like a pond or something..

Also, can you catch an individual fish if you had to? Lower the water and 3 or 4 friends go in and catch the fish.

What would you do differently if you had to pay for water? Although I am on well water there is still the cost of electricity (well pump) to move the water from the well to the tank and more $ to heat that water.

No.

It helps that the water is being changed at the rate of about 2,000 gallons per day.

Also when I ran the air pumps only (In 2000, 2006 and 2010 when I was doing major pump/filter/heater replacements or repairs) I increased the daily water change to more than 5,000 gallons a day.
