Have you ever dealt with any sort of disease outbreak? I had some problems and lost several fish in 2004 but never found the cause. The fish that did not die recovered and most are still in the tank.
Also, can you catch an individual fish if you had to? Lower the water and 3 or 4 friends go in and catch the fish.
What would you do differently if you had to pay for water? Although I am on well water there is still the cost of electricity (well pump) to move the water from the well to the tank and more $ to heat that water.
I also noted in your article that youre able to leave your tank to filter the water naturally with no pumps on except air pumps
have you ever got to a point where you might have specifics on this? Bioload + certain volume of water = naturally equalized filtering like a pond or something..
No.
It helps that the water is being changed at the rate of about 2,000 gallons per day.
Also when I ran the air pumps only (In 2000, 2006 and 2010 when I was doing major pump/filter/heater replacements or repairs) I increased the daily water change to more than 5,000 gallons a day.
