Where do you buy floor jacks from? And how much do the set your wallet back? If I'm going to have big tanks they probably wouldn't be a bad investment.. :)

So just the local hardware store? How much weight can they hold? Sorry if I'm being annoying. I was taught that its better to ask a stupid question than to make a stupid mistake, so I ask ALOT of questions..

For those wondering about goldfish growth. My goldfish have been in the 5ft tank for about a month and a half now, and have grown heaps!!! The smallest one was just under two inches when they went in, the largest one about five inches. The smallest one is now easily three inches and the largest one close to seven..

Tanks sits around 22°c and they get fed a very varied diet of fresh fruit, veg, frozen bloodworms, hikari goldfish staple, nls thera+a, hikari algae wafers and the live plants in their tank. PH sits around 7.4 (I've been slowly bringing it up for about a month now) I try keeping the nitrates under 20ppm (not easy with 10 goldfish).

I just thought I'd post my experience so far, in the hopes that it may help others to guestimate how quickly their goldfish may grow.

End note: this is what I have found with my goldfish, all fish are different and may require different things. Keep in mind that my goldfish are mostly slow growing fat ones, and that comets will grow at almost twice the speed of the fat ones. My 7 incher is a comet, he's grown 2 inches in 6 weeks. The others just over an inch. :)

Just another quick update, for those who may be wondering how quickly goldfish grow.

Three months in the big tank so far, most have slowed right down on their growing over the last month and I wouldn't guess they'd grown at all if I didn't take them out and measure them. The smallest is just over three inches 73mm to be exact (he is an oranda, so he's going to grow much slower than the rest). The baby hybrids are between three and four inches now, with the largest one almost touching five. The fantail hasn't grown much length wise - a few millimeters, but she's gotten much rounder in the belly. My comet however, is growing stupidly quick. He measurs almost ten inches, that's almost double his size in three months!

Their tank has been sitting around 25°c for the past month (its almost summer here), with pH around 7.6 (slowly bringing it up to 7.8) their diet is pretty much the same - only now they get pond and trumpet snails every few weeks as a treat as well - and I haven't been keeping constant live plants in their tank, once they destroy what I buy I don't put any more plants in until the week is over (I put plants in on Sunday, and don't buy any more now until Sunday comes again)

So, yeah, goldfish grow pretty quickly when given the chance.. Especially comets! :D

In the five or so years I have owned the Comet that my daughter won at a school fair, it has gone from 3/4" to just over 8". So it may be considered slow growth, but i fully expect this fish to live many more years to come....in fact, given the life expectancy of gold fish when kept properly, I could be quite old when this fish finally lives out it expectancy. I don't, however, expect it to get much bigger....it is a feeder Comet from poor stock I suspect. Nontheless, I will continue to care for it as it is my favorite fish.

Well the pond I'm trying to get put in I would like to be the size of a pool. I want it 4 metres wide and 10 metres long, and about 130cm deep (<--- will this even be deep enough?) I have no idea how much water it will hold, lots I hope.. Just waiting on council approval to start digging it out.. Also your goldfish are BEAUTIFUL!!! Sure put mine to shame lol I'm hoping I never have to put them in a pond, they're inside pets, and I'd love to heat the pond and have it full of oscars coz I think that would be cool, but something tells me I can kiss that dream goodbye until I'm at least 45.. :)

Thanks for the replies also.
At least 45? Hahahaha!!
Trust me, nothing magical about being 45!!!
Try and visualize your dreams in your head...see them as reality...you will be amazed at how things fall into place....

My two 9 cent comets used to cycle tank are almost a foot now after I put them in my community tank. So now they eat what all the other tropical fish eat instead of goldfish food, so they are growing fast now. I'm sure the extra space helps too. They're only a couple years old. They were alone in a 140 as of about 5 months ago.

@kittiee, your pool will hold in the order of 52,000 litres of water, you'll grow monster gold fish in there, unless you live in an area with severely cold winters where the pool freezes solid your goldfish will be fine outside, and will probably thank you for keeping them in a pool this size as opposed a tank...
