Peppermint crocodile fish similar to red tailed barracuda and slightly smaller and cheaper by $15Hmm the budget might be rough. True stone fish need brackish and red tailed barracuda might be pricey how about leaf fish or archer fish maybe? Bichirs are nice but not really oddball how about a dragon goby maybe or Asian gar(might get too big) hmm I'm listing all the moderately small oddballs I can think of. U have a eel which is nice maybe something up top (arowana sadly too big later in life but u could start out and when older hope u have enough to support it) maybe some cichlids(not oddball though) hmm I'll say more if I can think of them
Or a normal freshwater barracuda even cheaper lolPeppermint crocodile fish similar to red tailed barracuda and slightly smaller and cheaper by $15
