This is a pretty funny problem for me actually. My flowerhorn keeps attacking my hands when I'm cleaning the tank. He's only 5 inches right now so it doesn't hurt, but I'm sure as he grows it might. What do you guys do to distract them? Should I throw a bunch of food in? Maybe wear rubber gloves? Lol he's such an @!&hole.

Trust me happens to me all the time. I use my left hand to do whatever and use my right hand with a net to get my FH to stop attacking me. I used to have a 12" king kamfa who I used to pet and play with while doing maintenance. He would push off the rest of the crowd and protect me. I've gotten bitten pretty damn hard before.

Try to get a mirror for the tank it will help with the kok and aggression. He will attack it thinking a fish is in there. Old school trick for the growth of kok.

I still do the net and gravel vac trick I actually did it yest. In my fry tank its insane sometimes like 20 will bite me at the same time like piranhas lol thats only if I have my fingers in there trying to get something

This is completely false information. Flowerhorn have some big teeth when they get bigger. My Flowerhorn had visible teeth like a killers. All flowerhorn have teeth. All have inside their mouth and jaw area but some will actually have it outside.
Not my pic but an example

I scare my jag off several times with the cyphon until he gets submissive. Than I keep an eye on him as i clean the tank. Repeat that when he builds up the courage to attack me again. If necessary I keep a net in one hand to keep him at bay

I thump my jags in the for head when they get upity. or use to, they will attack the tube but not my hand anymore unless they have a clutch, then just the female, male runs and hides when my hand inters the tank.

I had a huge Midas that used to bite the @#$%&* out of me, now my little 5" Kamfa is doing it too.....try grabbing them (gently) and they should piss off for a while, when they come back do it again. Siphon hose taller than the tank helps a lot too.....they DO draw blood and they DO have a very powerful bite @ 10"-14" mark....maybe sooner

I miss the days banging my funny-bone on the edge of the tank after trying to dodge a bite and reeling in pain while pointing and mumbling "Damn you, you little psychotic *&%^$$$#**&$##!!@&$$$***^###!!!!!!".

:D

Get a net, scoop the fish and lay him on the floor; take your time, do your thing , then put him back in the tank after everything is done. ;)
