This is an interesting way of looking at it - I like it, I remember reading similar posts from you like this before, but honestly when I read the 1st sentence or so I'm surprised there was no mention of worrying about hybridization ;)

just wanted to add something I forgot, the Gibbiceps pleco....it's the only big pleco I will allow myself to have lol These guys like Pardalis are much more of an open-water showpiece kind of species, I would advise if you want to try decorative pleco, see how the clowns or bulldogs are treated 1st. it would be a shame for them to kill or even just beat-up any of the flashier patterned plecos.....and emphasized even more if you are into high $$ plecos like Bue-eyeds or whatnot

Another thought I just had was Peacock bass and Jaguars - no hybridization concerns, and of the Paras it would be the one that grows too big to get eaten but won't kill Peacocks like the Dovii. As ludicrous as it sounds, I won't put it past a 20-24" Peacock trying to swallow a 12" Red Tiger Motgua......I've personally seen what NA-Bass will attempt to eat, and Peacocks are MUCH more aggressive than most of our natives.

lol there ya go, Try a Temensis and a Muskellunge epic tank idea there. That isht would be legendary

I currently have a 7" common pleco in my 90 that I could throw in there too? But I do like the sailfins plus I could always craigslist someone around me that got a pleco thats gigantic cause they didnt look it up lol. Some of the decoratives are cool but I just couldnt imagine myself spending big bucks for something that sits there all day ya know?

But That could be an interesting combo with the bass and the jags? Im just wondering the quantity of fish I can have in there. I thought about a flagfish for algea control plus something thats gunna sift through the substrate to clean up anything left over. Maybe geos? please tell me if I am wrong im still very new to cichlids compared to others.

But if i could have temensis and muskellunge I think i would need a pool for them!

As you know hybridization is always a concern of mine, but this thread seems to go in a different direction, so I will save you my incessant proselytizing.
In fact there was a theory a while back, that after Parachromis managuense was introduced to northern areas as a food supply, one result may have been Parachromis sp La Ceiba (a possible cross between managuense and freidrichsthali (or some other Parachromis). But this may be simply speculation, and may have been debunked by now.
But South America is quite a different place than Central America, in that many more varied resources are available for fish utilization in the south, compared to some of the barren areas in Central. So the OPs combinations of different Peacock bass is an entirely different situation (maybe), and the totally different fish families like gars or arowana.
But with S American fish the varied climate zones of the large continent should be taken into consideration, many species from the south require different temps, and even cool downs, so trying to keep species from Uruguay, with species from northern Brazil may be akin to keeping Minnesotan trout with Florida gar, (to me) a bit weird.

If you do native you could keep it outside and keep ya mum happy, would need some overhead cover to protect the stand from the rain but might be an option?

James, what comes to mind is the wisdom of compromise. You want your parents to appease you, then you must do the same. Promise to get only good grades, clean the house as long as you live with your parents, do the dishes, laundry, you know, the stuff that works sweet on any given mother true to her senses...

In total length, vultures get to ~24" my impression is, no 1st hand experience sadly yet.

cinder blocks and a big sheet of polyurethaned plywood - problem solved
Great idea guys she would love to look out the window at that! But I think shes coming around to it. I only have a couple more years in the house till I will have enough money to be out so I will be taking it with me. not like she has to keep it
