Here is my Chocolate in her tank.

I think it is a girl? She is so cool and so laid back. I got her for free from a guy that was moving. I have only had her a yeah. I just love her.

Before I got her I started growing out 2 Severums. One born with a deformed gill plate. I was going to put them in this 100Gal. I am still thinking of putting them in the 100 Gal with her but I am not sure. The tank is so perfect the way it is. My gold Severums is doing a number on my plants and it is time for him to move out. The severums are only 3 and 4 inches. I think I am going to just move them to the 100Gal and see what happens. If I must I will find them new homes for them.

What do you think I should do with my little severums? I don't want to upset Buggy my Chocolate .

here is my Reject severums I got him when is was a bit smaller than a Dime. So Small I could not tell he had the messed up gill plate till he grew a little more. Here he is now kind of ugly.

My red severum he is a little bigger now.

My severum and chocolate get along famously. Individual experiences may vary.
they are a couple very mild-mannered cichlid species from what I understand, I could definitely see them cooperating for a semi-peaceful cichlid community tank. From what I gather, Severums and Chocolates aren't diesel enough to be kept with larger aggressives so go for it. I kind of want a Red Severum now......never had a Sev before

When I first moved down here I thought I could put in a Jaguar in with my Chocolate, Severum and all those guys temporarily while I set up the other tanks. The poor chocolate got beat up pretty bad. All in about a 20 minute gap. 4 weeks later and his scars are finally healing. You are definitely right, I would not put a chocolate in with central Americans or anything that is aggressive.

Very few fish are worse than Jags.....regardless of arbitrary aggression - just because they don't attack and kill stuff for no reason like RTMs and Dovii, they are still at the top of the list for "You mess with me, you die or wish you were dead, now on your way,.... this 90% of the tank is mine"

basically

I haven't had anything but conspecific breeding aggression. I keep chocolates, heros, mesonauta, etc

By the way my severum is also deformed. He was given to me to treat hole in head but after treatments and no progress it just has to be a deformity or lasting scars from hith.

Thanks guys.

I think it could work for awhile. I put them in the tank and Buggy my Chocolate she is checking them out telling them in a nice way she is the boss by slowly following them around to make them move out of her way.

I know really it comes down to personality. Both these severums are pretty mellow the red one is the most mellow of the 2. Always has been more submissive. They have just started picking on each other in the 80gal. The green one is a bit older and getting bossy another reason I had to move them. The green one is a bit stressed out right now.

Severums have always been my favorite cichlid but this Chocolate is changing my mind she is so cool.

yea I like these guys....I was recenty wondering what to "replace" my pair of Brasiliensis for my SA tank and I think I just found it. Don't worry, the Brasilienses are fine, I just moved them out of the SA cuz they formed a pair :) "replace" can mean a number of things lol, nothing bad though this time

Curious is Sevs are tough enough for GTs, and Pikes....the Geos and Gymnos and Acaras are chill, but the female GTs are one MEAN fish
