Bury him under a new tree or plant, at least that what I do with my pets and give back the nutrients
Sorry for your loss. Longest fish I owned was 7-8 years. I sold my Midas since he outgrow my solo 200 gallon tank. He was 15.5" and kept hurting himself on the tank. Sold it to a guy with a pond full of peacock bass and Midas. He had a 1-2000 gallon pond he stocked in his basement.
He was in a 75g by himself from 2004 to mid 2015. I purchased a 180g that was his home from July 15 to now. The tank was divided for a few months but I saw that he was getting stressed from constantly trying to get to the other piranha, so I sold that piranha in hopes it helped his health.
It all depends on their size and activity level. Size is the biggest drive. My guy was 10in and did fine in a 75g. He was extremely active and used all of the space which is not typical. I wish I had given him the 180g earlier as he always loved to swim all over that tank. However, many rhoms just sit in a corner.
I think a 75g starts getting small once the rhom gets around 12in. I would want to keep them in minimum of a 120g (4x2) or 180 (6x2), however, I am sure lots of folks keep rhoms in a 75g for life.

I see, at one point I was considering piranhas but I wouldnt try it in a 75 due to the size and general inactivity
