I recently set up a heavily wooded 135 gallon tall for some Geophagus Winemilleri i had aquired and ended up with 2 different Royal Plecos. So i started doing some digging on all the types and really, there isn't a good amount of intel reguarding them on the net. So i need some experts.

One of them is a lovely Olive green with black stripes. And is more wide-faced compaired to the other. It has yellowish/orange eyes. It was sold as L-191.

Where the other one is more slinder and flat looking with an orange hue on the body and fins. And nice red/orange eyes. Sold as L-27.

They love zucchini and any type of wafer. Not shy at all. They don't fight or compete at all. Even with the gold nugget, which I've heard are kinda rude and pushy. Also sharing the tank is a tiny Adonis fry that is can't seem to snap a picture of. He's super fast.

I'd like to add that the tank is heavily planted with Anubias, Hornwort, and Java Moss/ ferns.

None of the fish take interest in the plants so far. But it'll be fine if they do. I just find it strange. Everything i read about Royals is how they destroy plant life.20161127_193153.jpg 20161219_091125.jpg 20161127_193153.jpg 20161127_193153.jpg 20161219_091125.jpg

There are several types.

L027, of which there are 3 or 4 color variants (platinum, goldline...)
L190 is the red eye
L191 is the dull eye, similar to 190, but looses its lines when it gets really big.
L330 watermelon, which I guess doesnt have royal in the name, but to me it is one :)
L418 Shampupa

I just found out from a co-worker that my 27 is refered to as a L-27B. More orange. Bright eyes.
L190 looks very similar at this size too, lets see pics of it teeth to make sure it a L27 Xingu, the tail pattern look to be L190.

I have a xingu and an araguia both l27 variants. It's easier to differentiate from the river they came from then gold line, thunder etc. Those names get mixed up alot. Here is a pic of my araguia.
