Hello,

Picked up a male flowerhorn about 3" long a couple weeks ago and it's super shy and hangs out by the filter a ton. I've had other fish act similar before but they normally come out of it just never had a flowerhorn do it before. Water quality is fine and I keep the temp at 82. It's currently growing out in a 40 breeder and the only tankmate is a similar sized bristlenose pleco. Any tips or tricks? Or is it just something that he'll eventually come into his own?

Thanks

His confidence will establish as he grow bigger. Try some meal worm, it might bring out his natural predator in him.

What other fishes do you keep in there beside the pleco?

They can be shy around that size. I would provide a hiding space for it until it gets a little bit bigger.
