So here's what's happening. My parents agreed to have one tank in the living room, to replace the tv :p. Now the deal I have with them is "It's gotta look nice"

Now what should the tank be. Space is 106" long X 32 inches wide. Length wise I'd like to top 8' max for the length of tank and Max 32" wide

Now for the looking good part. As for show tank I guess you can say to look good in a living room. Thoughts on shorter tank like this -

Compared to a tank Lepisosteus Lepisosteus has which was 44" tall

Now I just need recommendations, and I will go from there.

In your opinion what setup would you rather have for display in a living room

I like the taller aquariums for display tanks, but if you are looking at used tanks I would put condition and price ahead of dimensions. That first tank looks pretty iffy.

Are you allowed to use the tank that was onced used as a vivarium for reptiles and turn it into an aquarium? I heard there was issues with ammonia leaking into the silicon and such, is that valid or false? I always wondered that

I've never heard that, so I'm not totally sure, but it sounds false. I mean even if it is true I don't think it would matter. After all your fish release ammonia into the water every day and your bb take care of it.

I also agree with DN328. I'm guessing you have a price limit, so many tanks are out of the question. Deciding your budget is a good first criteria to narrow down the options.

I'm looking to spend around $5,000-$6000...
I'll just have to sell off some of my extra dirt bikes and it's all good

So many options you could go with depending on what fish you ultimately want to keep...

I mean just low-tech planted with monsters or high tech planted with mid size fish are already two extremes that could look good as a display tank...

Haha. Now I guess I'm leaning more towards 36" Height :p
I'm 6' and my 30" 220 has me shoulder deep to just barely reach the substrate. If you are going to have to keep do maintenance more often to keep this tank looking nice, you might want to consider a 24" high tank.

Do you have any idea what you want to keep in it for fish?
