how can the bb be increased? and algae decr?Algae or plants dying can increase ur ammonia and nitrite levels. If u got enough bb and media it'll convert over to higher nitrate. Could be the reason I saw ur numbers go up.
Did you observe any algae die off? I've never encountered that. I'd suspect the alge growth was due to an excess of nutrient in the water despite the presence of bb bacteria and water lettuce.Its been dividing like crazy. To the point where i couldnt count anymore plants (stopped at 55) both under grow lights the odd thing is in the 150 (with less plants) they are not to far from the return, getting quite a bit of current. In the sump the surface is like glass.
Would the algae growth die off at night or during the lights off time amd add to the nitrate reading s?
So the plant in the main tank make a difference? How did you hold them together with it going to the overflow?Polyaddict86 figure this may interest you since we spoke about it in the past. I had some free time today as my daughters fever finally looks lije its breaking. Soi moved the water lettuce out of the sump. I think the bioloa is just too high for it to put a dent in nitrates, it isnt doing squat ! Amd i was getting algae growth all over the sump.
Moved it to the 150. Since i threw in 10 plants a couple of weeks ago i noticed nitrates were significantly lower as of last night they were 5ppm.
Also picked up a cheap submersible filter to use with the purigen. I think the gph on the reactor is too low to really make an impact if i run it full blast the beads dont tumble amd clog the area where the water exists, so we'll see how it goes.

Earlier in the thread you suspected the bioload on the 300g was too high for the water lettuce to impact, and from what little I know of your setup this would be my guess as well. 300g of water with a constant, high supply of waste products may simply have been too much for that size of plant mass to effect. Too few plants to absorb that much waste in that volume of water.
Perhaps the same amount of plants in the 150g (guessing it's also a lower bioload) might be closer to the mark to produce an observable reduction.
Maybe it's a case of needing to double or triple the amount of water lettuce in the poly tank?

BB will process as much ammonia as it can, and will multiply to convert extra. More ammonia(feedings)=more bb.how can the bb be increased? and algae decr?

No way in hell those plants would stay put with the big polys going up for air.

Algae can be free floating. Can't see it. That's it'll be on the rock and then somewhere else on the glass for example.
