Red terror wanting to spawn????

i had picked up this male red terror on Saturday and I. Came home today and saw this this is the first pit he has dug in the tank and I was wondering if he wants to spawn maybe someone could tell me as of right now he is the only one in the tank here are the pics

A lot of times when cichlids are content they dig. Unless there is a female in the aquarium with him I'd imagine it has nothing to do with spawning

Thank you for the response I haven't heard they do it when they are content good to know

Yeah, they will dig all the time. Mine rearrange their tank almost weekly but usually it's the female that will dig the pit when it is spawning related.
I keep a couple large pots in the tank and they spawn in those but the female will dig the sand out from in front of the pot just as part of the ritual I guess.

The male just does it as a display, I think . Because he will grab a mouth full of sand and just swim around with it for a few seconds and then blow it out in front of her as if to say "look how much I can move, Don't you want to make babies with me!" lol

Big g mine also rearrange my tank on a weekly basis my male and female have always dug out there corners and every time I do water changes and put all sand back the minute I'm finished they start all over again
