So my aimara is healing with his fins which is great but I have noticed this damage to his snout that looks like pin holes reminding me of HITH that I had on my rhom. No idea how he would have HITH seeing it is not common with wolves, he is young, his diet is dead food soaked in vitachem and I do 50% water changes every 5 days. Here are some pics. Feel like I have been having never ending issues with every fish I got after my rhom.

I do have extremely hard water but did not have this issue with the prior aimara I had. I was using peat moss somewhat regularly with him though so I am thinking of introducing it into this tank.

He could be trying to jump out at night, I've had wolves do this and end up with scratches. I'd notice the scratches but not the jumping till I'd stay up late watching them one night with lights off. The way the markings are they seem symmetrical which would lead me to think he's hitting something but I don't think a kid would leave such mark. But I've also not had a fish with HITH.

Just curious, how's your filtration system? I've had giant gurami with HITH once but it's because of small tank, lack of water changing and bad filtration system.

7in Aimara in a 180g by himself with 50% wc every 5 days. Filter is large hmf and some biomax behind it. Parameters are good. Either he is stressed from something or it's possibly my hard water. I've introduced peat moss and will go by a tester to make sure no equipment is leaking electricity into the tank as I have heard of that happening and causing hith. Will change up his diet with filet stuff with nls hex and metro+. Will see what that does. Something is going on to cause fin rot and then this.

I had a flowerhorn that struggled with hith for a long time...it actually looks very similar to what he had going on. I always assumed it was water quality issues, but with your water changes that doesn't make sense.

Perhaps you change water too much? Try 30% a week or change his diet to 100% Hikari pellet. Dunno. I'm puzzled too.

I believe it is excess voltage in the water. I tested it and it was off the charts. Looks like my heaters, temp controller and even power head was putting voltage into the water. Unbelievable really.

Hopefully that'll solve your issues once it's fixed

also heard of carbon causing this in large cichlids. I've never seen them with hith in the past.,
Heard of carbon doing it too. I get the grounding probe today so I should start seeing results relatively quickly I hope. Working on what equipment to change out, if not all of it. He is eating like champ so with the healthy diet, vitachem, and daily water changes I really hope he can recover quickly.

No idea how long this has been going on for so I am wondering if this was one of the causes in my GATF not eating. Will never know.

I have heard of one case of an aimara with HITH but it as a very old and large specimen that was imported. Not surprised if all specimen succumb to it, but it should not happen to such a young one.
