Hey all. After my last mistake if purchasing a salvini I decided to be more careful with cichlid stocking choices

I have heard a lot of good about these fellas. This combined with their smaller max size (6"?) has me interested due to my tank only being 48 x 18 x 18"

I'd like to know what their temperament and such is as many say, calm or not? And no it won't be a pair. I just don't want anything that would bully my knifefish and polys. So what's the consensus on these fellas?

I have a pair of EBA that are pretty mild tempered when no fry is involved the female nearly killed the male. You should be fine with one.

In general they are a lot calm, peaceful than other family related cichlid, I have not seen blue acara bigger than 4 inches yet, the pair I used to have stay around 3.5 inches. They are a bit aggressive when mating but as long other fish don't wander into their nest then they don't bother them.

I am interested in this fish as well. When I move in 4 months and bump my JD's into a 110, the 55 they are in atm will be open and was thinking on keeping a breeding pair in it. I like the they look like mini JDs sorta with a little GT orange dorsal seem to boot.

They also remind me of miniature Oscar's personality wise lol.

That makes them better in my opinion. I love thier JD looks, and Oscar personality to boot, my other favorite fish. Win win in my book.
