I just bought a fire eel for my 33 gallon it seemed normal at first but after a few hours I noticed these weird white dots on it I assumed ich when I added the does I usually add for scaless fish about 5 minutes later it turned almost a white I was wondering if anyone could explain this as he is the only one like this.

Post you water parameters from a liquid test kit. (Test strips are unreliable)

Edit to add. What did you dose for "ick". If it was copper.....he will die. I learned the hard way when i mistakenly used copper. I immediately pulled him out and did a 90% wc and put him in another tank. He died the next day.

If all of his skin is burned (all white) euthanize him)

Stress.
Ammonia burn
Acid/chemical burn. (From meds? Copper etc)

Here's a little update his color has returned a little however he does have white patches on his side which I assume are ammonia burns as well he's not as active as when I got him is there anything I can do to help him pull through as I really want to give him a chance before I use the idea of putting him down

What are perfect water conditions? Can you give specific numbers - Nitrites, Ammonia, Nitrates?

Did you do a large water change to get rid of the copper med?

What tank will he be living in long term?
I hope your 33 gallon is a quarantine - they need 180+ gallons.

I put him in my 22 quarantine tank which has no ammonia and is fully cycled and yes he's only in there till he's about 1 foot then he's going in a hundred gallon if he survives

He'll need more than 100 gallons.

I hope he pulls through for you though.
